When you are young, your aunts and uncles will ask you what you want to be when you grow up. It’s a rare child who says, ‘I want to be a facilitator’. Facilitation is more something you gradually discover and can get drawn to. ‘Oh, that’s facilitation. Yes, I can see how that makes a difference. And I seem to be able to do it.’

If there’s a group of people in the pub, or on a Zoom call, chances are that one of them will be the unofficial facilitator, helping the conversation along. If it happens to be you, consider it an offer of a professional prospect. On the other hand, if you alone are contributing all the brilliant ideas to the conversation, it’s probably time for you to launch your internet start-up.
