The course is for anyone looking to develop their communication skills and discover the joy of spontaneity – whether or not you want to take these skills onto the stage.

It’s for business professionals keen to improve their public speaking, teachers hoping to engage students more meaningfully, and anyone who wants to have purposeful fun while meeting new people.

Who are the teachers?

You’ll meet Paul Z Jackson and Imran Mirza, who bring years of experience to this work, along with other friendly members of the Awkward Actors performance and teaching squads

What’s it like?

This is a single, introductory 2-hour session in which you’ll take your first steps into the art of comedy improv. There will be a mix of short presentations, fun and engaging exercises designed to build your skills and confidence, reflections and Q+A.

The Oak Room, The Old Schoolhouse, Hertford Street, Oxford, OX4 3AJ.

What topics do we cover?
  • Discover the landscape of improvisation – how it shows up in performance, leadership and everyday life
  • Have the opportunity to join in gentle introductory activities to flex your improv muscles
  • Learn how to engage further in improv in Oxford, whether as a more-informed audience member at improv shows, a participant in one-off sessions, or taking a course that can lead to you towards performing or simply developing whatever skills are important to you.

This will be a safe environment to find out if improv is for you, to rediscover your self-expression and enjoyment of creativity.

What experience do I need?

It’s suitable for all levels of experience. Beginners especially welcome.

Do I need to be a performer?

No. The session is suitable for actors and non-actors. The focus is on the skills of improvisation. If your aim is to perform, this is a good place to start.
