My Powerpoint’s not working – quelle surprise!
In many organisations, there are excellent people who give ordinary presentations. That is a terrible waste of potential.
Often they are doing silly things that can easily be fixed. For example, at a recent conference, I saw a presenter who was faced with her PowerPoint slides not working at the start of her talk. There was nothing wrong with the machinery she’d simply neglected to get them set up in advance. She said she’d ‘Do an icebreaker, while we wait for this to get loaded’ which immediately scared everyone so much they didn’t listen to the instructions. The room was fine up to that point, and now she had introduced a needless new chill.
Later she confided that her presentation was somehow out of the prepared order, thus devaluing it immediately. Even if that’s true, the audience doesn’t know and there is no need for the presenter to say so.
Anyone thinking of the audience (instead of their own troubles) would have presented the surprises and changes in terms of added – not lessened – value.
Our award-winning Inspirational Presenter course equips you with a range of sophisticated techniques to make the most of your abilities, so you can excel on the platform and in front of any audience.
