What this disruption means for the future – Two confident predictions
Many of us are discovering new possibilities in lockdown and also wondering what the future might look like.
We’re questioning the ways that we have been used to working all these years.
Whether work simply stopped or was conducted exclusively from home, there was a sudden and unavoidable disruption. And disruption always comes with an opportunity for reflection and a fresh look.
There’s a digital transformation going on, and for many individuals and organisations there will be no going back to the old ways.
Let’s make two confident predictions:
- First, we’re going to be more virtual than before. We’ll settle on a new mix between home-working, and our old office and conference habits. When we add in the ‘third space’ of local cafes with wifi, it will be a more congenial blend.
- Second, we’ll be more global. We are engaging with new communities, often irrespective of geographical boundaries (though time zones are a constant new consideration).
- And third, we can wonder… Is a radically new set of social arrangements emerging or will we revert closely to life as before? What’s important to retain from our lockdown experiences? And what good questions can we ask each other to help us flourish with what comes next?
