Events, away days & facilitation

Facilitation

An experienced facilitator can make a significant difference to an important meeting, workshop or event. PJA facilitators help you plan and shape the session, then facilitate it on the day – freeing you and your colleagues to contribute fully and focus your expertise where it matters most.

When this is useful

PJA members can step in wherever an independent, experienced facilitator will help a group work more effectively – from designing the format to guiding the conversation and keeping the session moving.

You have an important workshop or event to plan and run

A new project needs people aligned from the outset

You don't have time to work out the details of an away day

A strategy session needs better structure, momentum and clear outcomes

A whole team needs to take part, rather than having team leaders facilitate the session themselves

A virtual or hybrid session needs to be as effective as a face-to-face session

You need an experienced facilitator to navigate a complex internal dynamic

A team needs to solve a problem, develop new ideas or make an important decision

You need a conference to feel engaging, seamless and confidently run

Our approach

We start with what the group needs to achieve, then build the session around a series of purposeful, participative experiences.

That means thinking about the topic, the people involved, the conversations that need to happen and the activities that will help the group move forward.

We create safe and inclusive spaces where people can contribute, experiment, solve problems, develop ideas and – where appropriate – have some fun along the way.

Examples

Facilitating a half-day innovation workshop for Google

Designing and facilitating a series of online webinar events for the Applied Improvisation Network

Advising The World Bank in transitioning their Understanding Risk Forum from a face-to-face to a virtual event

Hosting week-long annual gatherings of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre Team

Formats and scale

We design for the medium rather than simply transferring the same format from one setting to another.

For virtual sessions, that means making deliberate use of the possibilities of the technology. For face-to-face work, it means designing around the room, the group and the interaction between participants.

Our work ranges from meetings and workshops for 6-50 people through to group sessions, webinars and conferences involving hundreds of participants.
